Rise to power
Shivaji Maharaj's military career started at a very young age, and he captured his first fort, Torna Fort, at the age of 16 in 1645. This was the beginning of his campaign to establish a Maratha kingdom. His strategic skills, bravery, and tactics allowed him to rapidly expand his territory, gaining control of several forts along the Western Ghats and coastal areas.
Conflicts with the Mughals
Shivaji's most famous conflict was with the Mughal Empire, led by Emperor Aurangzeb. Shivaji's defiance against the mighty Mughal forces is legendary.
